Due to the present uncertainty surrounding Covid, an update regarding its impact on the 2020-2021 Learn To Skate Program will be forthcoming near the month of October.

MYH's Learn to Skate Program Overview

Welcome! Milton Youth Hockey (MYH) is looking forward to starting its 55th Beginner's Skating Program season this year and is anticipating another great season.

The focus of this Learn to Skate Program is to teach Milton children, ages four and over (born between 12/1/2009 and 12/1/2015), the fundamental skills required to become good skaters with the potential of developing an interest in the sport of ice hockey or figure skating. The goal of each participant is: "to learn and to be the best skater I can be." This is accomplished through easy to follow instruction, fun drills, and placing the children into groups by age and ability.

The program begins on Sunday, December 1, 2019 and runs through February 16, 2020  All sessions will be held Sunday’s at the Max Ulin MDC Rink in Milton. Boys will skate from 11:00 to 11:50 a.m. and girls will skate from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m.

The cost for participating in the program will be $125.00 per child. Requirements include residency - Participants must live in the Town of Milton and be 4 (four) years old by the start of the Program - 12/1/2019.

All boys and girls are required to wear hockey helmets. Bicycle helmets are not allowed. Please place a piece of tape with your child’s first name on the front of his or her helmet. Protection for the teeth is highly recommended.  Boys and girls are also encouraged to use a protective mask (cage or visor).  A good pair of proper fitting skates is important as well.

Helping Out

Interested parents and adults who wish to help with instruction on a weekly basis are welcome!  Please know that skates and helmets are required.  In order to assist, registration is required with USA Hockey (see USA link listed below in Registration). USA Hockey will e-mail you a registration confirmation. Additionally, background checks are now required and are to be done on the mahockey.org website.  You will need to upload a license picture to your computer before starting this - it is needed to complete the process.  This will incorporate the CORI process while doing this.  Mass Hockey will prompt you to create a 'sportsengine' account.  You will be notified when the background check is complete via your email account.

Also at the first session if any parents do go out on the ice to help, they are required to wear hockey helmets.  We recognize that it can be a challenge sometimes to get your skater onto the ice (and stay there!) - and that may mean you go out onto the ice surface.  This is all fine, but please note that parents are NOT allowed on the ice without a helmet whether for 2 minutes or an entire season – this is for safety

Prior to registering your child with the MYH LTS program, parents will need to register their child (on-line) with USA Hockey. You can go to the following link which brings you directly to the USA site http://www.usahockeyregistration.com/ then follow the prompts from there, including, if applicable, paying the required $48.00 fee. You will be able to print out the confirmation information directly from the USA Hockey site as well as being sent a confirmation email. Parents should then complete the process by registering their child with MYH.

The MYH on-line registration opened on September 11, 2019 and will close at the end of the day on Dec. 16, 2019. Please visit the on-line registration section of this website f
or additional instructions on registering for the Learn to Skate Program. Note that you will need to enter the USA Hockey confirmation number as part of our Learn to Skate registration.
